Executive Director, Just Share, South Africa

Tracey Davies is executive director of Just Share. Tracey holds a BA LLB from UCT and an LLM from New York University. She is admitted as an attorney in South Africa and as a solicitor in England & Wales.

After completing her articles at Bowmans, Tracey practised as a litigation attorney in London, and then spent a year travelling overland through Africa. In 2013, after returning to South Africa, Tracey joined the Centre for Environmental Rights, an NGO engaged in strategic public interest advocacy, research and litigation to advance environmental justice, where she headed the Corporate Accountability and Transparency Programme. Tracey was part of the team that conceived of and set up Just Share, and has been its executive director since May 2018. 

Just Share works collaboratively with local and international social justice partners and responsible investors to drive urgent action to combat climate change and reduce inequality. Just Share has supported and filed South Africa’s first shareholder resolutions on climate risk. Tracey sits on the Steering Committee of the Academy of Sciences South Africa’s Just Transition Forum, and is a member of the Advisory Board for the National Business Initiative’s Just Transition Pathways Initiative. She was a member of the PRI Awards judging panel in 2020 and 2021, and was part of the Global Reporting Initiative’s Human Rights Technical Committee. She writes a monthly column for the Financial Mail, and is a recognised expert on corporate governance, responsible investment and shareholder activism.
